Proverbs 27  6-27-16

[5] Better is open rebuke than hidden love. [6] Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

After reading John 6 through the end of the chapter, I have come to the conclusion that we should be bold with the Gospel and allow the Spirit to bring conviction. So here it goes:

1. Jesus left Heaven to come to earth to show us how to live a godly life and then to die in our place. Does His sacrifice mean ANYTHING to you? We “receive” His sacrifice with many thanks, but then forget about the entire rest of His life and ministry! HE CAME SO THAT WE COULD BE GODLY. I’m not seeing a lot of that godliness in the people of God.

2. Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to heaven and sat down at the right hand of God-the very place He had left to come to earth. If we identify with Christ, we “die” to ourselves and live for Him. This picture is what baptism is all about. From the point of our salvation on, we are “dead to sin” (it cannot separate us from God again), and alive to Christ (we have His Spirit within us!). Note this verse:

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

3. We may not be saved everyday, but we prove to whom we belong by what we do every day. Read this verse from the Amplified Version:

Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape [appropriate retribution] if we neglect and refuse to pay attention to such a great salvation [as is now offered to us, letting it drift past us forever]? [1] We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.

Living for ourselves is out of the question for Christians. Living for Him is the very thing that defines us. We identify with Christ:

1 Peter 4:1-3 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.

Sin no longer rules us. his Spirit does!

[2] As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.

If your higher desire to please God in all you do, say, and think does not override your natural desires, then you had better “check your hole card.” 2 Cor. 13:5 says to “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?”

[3] For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.

It is time to put away our childish and sinful ways. We MUST STOP getting drunk or high (debauchery), sleeping around (orgies), pornography (lust), hitting the bars (carousing), and putting things in the way of God, like sports and recreation, tv, movies-anything that detracts you from God (idolatry).  Start cleaning up your life (with His direction and help) before He does it FOR you!

It’s time to “man up.” Ladies, too. I leave you with this verse:

1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man [adult], I put childish ways behind me.

Let’s put behind us our childish ways. Let us live for Him!

ONLY NATURAL

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Who’s the biggest fool of all?

You don’t have to answer me

‘Cause when I look at you I see

A prisoner set free from his chains

Acting like he’s still a slave

To the prison he’s been set free from

You may say it’s only natural

For me to act this way

Well, I know it’s only natural

But I have not been made

Only natural, only natural

I’ve got the spirit of the living God alive in me

Giving me power, so I don’t have to be

Only natural, only natural, yeah

So mirror, mirror look again

You’ve seen the fool that I have been

But did you see the grace that covers me?

Not to do anything I please

In fact, grace is the only thing

That makes me what I am not naturally

It’s supernatural power

Brings life out of the grave

It gives sight to the blind man

And it will not let me stay

Only natural, yeah, only natural

I’ve got the spirit of the living God alive in me

Giving me power, so I don’t have to be

Only natural, only natural

Only natural, only natural

I know that on my own I’m only human naturally

But I’ve got the spirit of the living God alive in me

Giving me power, so I don’t have to be

Only natural, only natural

Only natural, only natural
