Proverbs 10 11-10-18

Make sure that your devotion is to Christ Himself and not to a “way of thinking.” Relationship over religion.

Proverbs 10:8 The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.

I use a lot of Scripture in my Proverbs (duh-it’s about Proverbs!), thus assuming that we all trust the Bible. The difficulty arises with the latest generation that does NOT trust the Bible. Why? Because they haven’t seen it lived in the previous generations; instead, they have heard words that people’s actions contradict. Hence, their reticence in believing in the God of the Bible.

The Bible is the revealed Word of God. It is how He has chosen for us to get to know Him–but it is a TOOL; it is never to take the place of HIM. Once we receive the Holy Spirit, we have the Word of God INSIDE of us. HE teaches us in our relationship with Him. Anything else is idolatry.

Matthew 15:7-9 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’”

The Pharisees had taken a passage and twisted it to their own ends. The Word of God IS trustworthy; it’s the interpretation that can be suspect. Therefore, we must live in such a way that people SEE Jesus in us and then will come to know Him. HE will teach them to trust His Word.

There is a song that I have sung for over 30 years, and its refrain is:

“You’re the only Jesus some will ever see; you’re the only words of life some will ever read, so, let them see in you the One in whom is all they’ll ever need; cause you’re the only Jesus some will ever read.”

At the same time, we KNOW the Word and its Author, so we put into practice the verse:

James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Let’s enjoy our walk with Jesus as He enlightens us along the way.
