Proverbs 10 11-10-22

Everyone needs a life mantra, something that acts as a North Star for him. Mine is a passage from the Bible, Psalm 73:23-26.

23 Yet, I am always with you;
    you hold me by my right hand.
24 You guide me with your counsel,
    and afterward you will receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
    And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

This psalm was written by a fellow named Asaph. He was one of the priests who led worship for King David. The first part of this psalm is about how good people suffer and bad people prosper. Sound familiar? Me, too! The key to the psalm is in the middle:

16 But when I thought how to understand this,
    it seemed to me a wearisome task [“what’s the use?”],
17 until I went into the sanctuary of God;
    then I discerned their end.

What Asaph needed was a Godly perspective. They would not get away with things forever. In the words of Paul, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap” (Galatians 6:7). Asaph lists what will happen to them, and then he deals with his own heart,

21 When my heart was grieved
    and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless and ignorant;
    I was a brute beast before you.

Asaph, was saying, “This is how I must look to God.” And yet, he pens these words,

Awareness
23 Yet, I am always with you;
    you hold me by my right hand.

The Walk
24 You guide me with your counsel,
    and afterward you will receive me to glory.

Praise
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?
    And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.

Dependence
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
    but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

I have adopted this passage as my life mantra. I read/quote it every morning. I allow it to guide my life. I am aware of God and His presence within me; He walks with me through the day guiding me with His counsel in sweet fellowship; I praise Him for who He is; I look forward to moving from this house/body to His house and my new body.

Do you have a life mantra? I recommend finding a Scripture verse/passage that speaks your heart and life. In the meantime, how about using mine? I have made a QR in order for you to find it easily. I’ll send the link separately.

Abba, I pray for my readers that they will find a verse or passage that speaks their heart and life. I know that if they will read Your Word, that You will draw them to one, one that speaks Your heart to them, as well. In my passage, I see Your love and Your patience with me. I love Your guidance because it means conversation, and of course, I love the promise that I will get to be with You in glory. I can hardly wait, O Lord! Amen.
