Are you eager to do what Christ desires? Have you allowed His words to dwell in you richly? If not, then when? How can we expect to understand the goings-on in life if we don’t go to the Source of life?
6 The mocker [resistant person] seeks wisdom and finds none,
but knowledge comes easily to the discerning [those who go to the Source].
This idea of being eager to please Jesus by allowing His words to dwell in us richly is actually three verses put together:
14 who [Jesus] gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
10 and find out what pleases the Lord. Ephesians 5:10
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom…Colossians 3:16
By combining these three verses, we get this:
Those who are eager to do good
find out what pleases the Lord,
which is to let His words dwell in us richly.
Pretty simple, huh? All it takes is TIME. He has given us TIME; now we give TIME back to Him. TIME is one of the Five Love Languages* and it’s a big one for God. So is SERVICE, “Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23. We’ll cover the other love languages another time.
Let’s not let “the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it [us] unfruitful.” Mark 4:19. Let’s find out what pleases Him, which we KNOW is to study His words so that He can make them come alive in our lives–just like this verse!
Abba, I pray that You will stir within my readers the desire to please You, to study Your Word, and to allow Your promises and commands to sink deep roots into them. Speak to us through what You have already said, LORD. Then, apply those words to our hearts and lives. Purify us to be Your people, eager to do Your will. Amen.
