The Lord’s voice is behind us, but where are His arms? Around us!
22 What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar [one who says he loves God, but chases after money or power or influence or fame, etc].
One of my favorite verses in Isaiah is 30:21, which says, “And you will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.'” THAT’S how I hear the Spirit’s voice. In the words of Jimmy Cox, “I don’t hear His voice audibly–it’s much louder than that.” Very true!
We have His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Our job is to keep our minds/posture/attention turned toward Him. “Breathe in the Spirit, breathe out the flesh…breathe in the Spirit, breathe out the flesh…” What our job is NOT is to do things FOR Him. He doesn’t need our “help.” Abraham and Sarah tried to “help” God and they wound up with Ishmael (look how that worked out!). God is reaching around us and working; He’ll let us know when and how we can join Him. We just need to stay connected to the Spirit. One of the BEST ways is through the Word of God. Here’s why:
27 Stop listening to instruction, my child, and you will stray from the words of knowledge.
God has placed–literally–in our hands His revelation of His overarching plan, His character, His desires, and His warnings. Let’s learn what He has written down for us even as He teaches us while we read. Saying we don’t have time to read is really saying we don’t have time for God. If we want to love our Lord, we will spend time with Him in His Word. Let’s place ourselves in a position to hear His voice. We need to seek His face and humble ourselves in His presence. When we do, we will be awash with His Love, His Joy, and His Peace. Let’s enjoy the EMBRACE of God!
Keep this word picture in mind: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field [the Gospel planted in a life]. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches [it ministers to those around it].” Matthew 13:31-32 Jesus is growing the Kingdom of Heaven in you!
Abba, please show us snippets of the fact that You are growing the Kingdom of Heaven in us. May we get little revelations all day as You make us aware of how You are growing us into trees that minister to those around us. Help us to stay focused on You, but to keep our hands at our sides until You tell us what to do with them–our mouths, too. Thank You for loving us and for wanting to interact with us! WOW! The King of the universe wants to walk with me! Now that’s a thought that will keep me going all day. Love you. Amen.
