What are we willing to give up for Christ’s plan to save sinners? Time? Money? Stuff? Schedules? Our very lives?
20 Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD.
When we became Christians, we died and our lives became all about Him. If this was not explained to you before you chose Christ, I am sorry. I pray that you have grown enough in Christ to realize that He is WORTHY. To follow Christ, we must be willing to give up our homes and lives, our family, and to not look back.
57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” Homes and lives.
59 He said to another man, “Follow me.”
But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Family
61 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”
62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:57-62 Don’t look back.
Our memories tend to be selective when looking back. The children of Israel pined for Egypt in the desert; they “forgot” the slavery part of Egypt.
4 The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, “If only we had meat to eat! 5 We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. 6 But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!” Numbers 11:4-6
They were being fed directly by God with manna and they complained about the food and the service! Be wary of those who would minimize God’s graciousness!
What we need to remember when we do ponder our past is this:
3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. Titus 3:3
Instead, let us strive to be this way:
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone. Titus 3:1-2
Why? Because of what Christ has done for us!
4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7
Folks, that is reason enough to follow Him! But there’s an even bigger reason:
9 And they sang a new song [to Jesus], saying:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”
11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
We worship Jesus Christ, Yeshua Messiah, because HE IS WORTHY. We love Him because HE IS WORTHY. We serve Him because HE IS WORTHY. As we go to our respective churches today, may we praise the name of Jesus because HE IS WORTHY!
Dear LORD Jesus, Your Spirit bears witness to my spirit that YOU ARE WORTHY! May my entire life be wrapped around this truth. Direct me as You see fit, LORD. I give up everything and everyone for YOU. “I have set my face like flint” and will not look back upon anything in my life and wish to return. To YOU, O LORD, be all power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise in my life. Amen.
