Maintenance is important for cars, houses, our health, and our spiritual lives. DAILY maintenance is prescribed.
1 My child, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight, 2 that your lips may preserve knowledge.
Living on yesterday’s grace–not a good idea! Each day, we get up as new creations in Christ who need the nourishment of the Spirit and fellowship with our heavenly Father and His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Scriptures to consider:
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that when we are saved, we become new creations. This verse tells us that EACH DAY we become more and more like our Savior. We can either help or hinder the Spirit as He works in us (Eph. 4:30 “quench” = “hinder”).
11 “Give us this day our daily bread…” John 6:11
Bread in that day had no preservatives, so it became stale overnight. We also have the reference to manna, the bread from heaven, which spoiled overnight–except on the day before Sabbath, where it lasted two days (Exodus 16:21-26).
25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:25
Christian history tells us that even a century after Paul (read about Justin the Martyr in 168 AD), Christians would meet together each day before daybreak for prayer and encouragement, and to be lights in a dark world as they went to work. We would do well to consider meeting more often for the same reasons.
Please pray with me on this matter: I sense that God is about to do something unusual at Brookwood. I would like to begin going to church early in the morning for an hour of prayer. I would begin with one day a week and then go from there. I am asking for guidance as to what day and what time. I am also asking for people to join me there as the Spirit leads. I will update you as I receive confirmation from the Spirit.
Abba, You know my heart. I want to be attuned to Your Spirit, and prayer is the only way I know to do that. Bible study is important, too, because You speak to me through Your Scriptures, but it is in prayer that I fellowship and commune with You. Lead me in this endeavor, O LORD, for I feel Your urging to do it. Amen.
