What dominates our thoughts usually indicates what is important to us. Take time to analyze.
When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, (2) and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. (3) Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive. Proverbs 23:1-3
The object of this verse is to make us think, to analyze:
- Why am I there?
- What do we hope to gain?
- What do I stand to lose?
It’s a great time for you and the LORD to walk through the situation together. Let’s go over some goals:
- Don’t put too much weight on pleasing them. Our overarching goal is to please our LORD through our conversation with Him and our obedience to Him.
- Don’t be judgemental toward them. Unless asked, their relationship with the LORD is between them and the LORD. Don’t meddle- even mentally.
- Look for opportunities to drop spiritual nuggets- not only to the host, but to the wait-staff, as well.
Our goal is to “be kind and compassionate, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.” Eph. 4:32.
Abba, give us grace and discernment for today. Amen.
