Proverbs 23 8-23-19

What dominates our thoughts usually indicates what is important to us. Take time to analyze.

When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, (2) and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. (3) Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive. Proverbs 23:1-3

The object of this verse is to make us think, to analyze:

  1. Why am I there?
  2. What do we hope to gain?
  3. What do I stand to lose?

It’s a great time for you and the LORD to walk through the situation together. Let’s go over some goals:

  1. Don’t put too much weight on pleasing them. Our overarching goal is to please our LORD through our conversation with Him and our obedience to Him.
  2. Don’t be judgemental toward them. Unless asked, their relationship with the LORD is between them and the LORD. Don’t meddle- even mentally.
  3. Look for opportunities to drop spiritual nuggets- not only to the host, but to the wait-staff, as well.

Our goal is to “be kind and compassionate, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.” Eph. 4:32.

Abba, give us grace and discernment for today. Amen.
