Fanatic- a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal. What are you fanatical about in your life?
18 The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. 19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
Day 16 of 21 Days of Deep
The word, “uncritical,” means “without question.” How dangerous is that! When considering whether to follow Christ, it comes down to two things:
- Is He calling us? We cannot come to Him unless the Spirit calls us into a relationship with Him (John 6:44). It’s not up to us; it’s up to Him.
- Is He worth following? Simon Peter answered correctly, and for us, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” John 6:68.
In one way, we are not fanatics because we asked the right questions up front. Is He worth following? Is He calling us? The answer is a resounding YES. We place our faith and trust in Him. Once we are in, though, we become fanatics in that we don’t question what Jesus asks of us. We TRUST Him. We have His promises and we bank everything on His Word.
Here are some of those promises:
18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to [in willful] sin; the One who was born of God [Jesus in us] keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. 19 We know that we are children of God [and our citizenship is in heaven], and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one [Satan]. 20 We know also that the Son of God has come [to us] and has given us understanding, so that we may know him [experientially and intimately] who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ [and He in us]. He is the true God and eternal life.
21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols. [For a breakdown of this verse, definitely go to the study just below today’s Proverbs lesson!]
