Proverbs 23 7-23-19

Where we get our “truth” is important. The local news is NOT the best source. The Word of God IS.

(12) Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge.

As we look at 1 John 2:18-27, let us take to heart John’s teaching about the ANOINTING. We believe John’s words because he lived with Jesus and was His disciple, which means that John’s goal was to learn EVERYTHING about his Master. Jesus taught HIs disciples truths about heaven, mankind, history, coming events, attitude, interpretation, how to listen to the Spirit, how NOT to listen to man’s philosophies–everything. We, too, are His disciples. John tells us how to walk with Jesus even as HE walked with and learned from Jesus: Through the Spirit.

As always, read it in your physical Bible as well as here or on your electronic device.

18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.

20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.[a] 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.

26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.

Let’s SOAP up:

You’ve read the Scripture.

Now, Observe anything that the Spirit highlights for you.

Consider how you might Apply this truth(s) to your life.

Ask the Father (Pray) to help you to recognize opportunities when they arrive and to make application. For instance, someone on TV is “waxing eloquently” when all of a sudden it becomes clear that he/she doesn’t believe that Jesus is God, or does not believe in the Resurrection (this person is an antichrist). What do we do? We acknowledge the “red flags and flashing lights” of the Spirit’s warning and turn to something else. We discard his/her message and replace it with what we KNOW to be TRUE according to God’s word. Responding to the Spirit is what righteous living is all about!

Abba, may every person SOAPing receive a special blessing today as we all listen for Your voice. May we recognize when You are teaching us, rebuking us, correcting us, and training us in Your righteousness*. May we learn Your word, O Lord!

*2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, (17) so that the man/woman/servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
