How strong is our desire to hear from God? Do we realize that when we do, our lives will change?
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
“The fear of the LORD” is, indeed, fear: Fear of judgement, wrath, punishment, discipline–but, it’s all Old Covenant! With the Coming of Christ and our adoption as His sons (yes, girls, you, too), our fear is now caught up in making sure we live godly lives out of gratitude in order to please Him.
“Fools [who] despise wisdom and instruction” are those who receive salvation, but aren’t really interested in growing in their relationship with the Father. This life here on earth is dangerous and God would save us from much of it if we will only learn, listen, and obey the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We know that there is no way to get through this world unscathed, but it is better to suffer for righteousness rather than ignorance and unrighteousness.
1 Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. 17 For it is better, if it is God’s will [we may suffer for standing for Him], to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
Are you putting in the time and effort to learn all you can about God in His Word and by spending time with Him? Are your priorities in order? He wants so much for us to move from Freshman and Sophomore levels to the Junior and Senior levels, from 101 and 201 classes to the 301 and 401 classes. He wants us to move from “cleaning up the shop” to assisting Him in the business of changing lives. WE MUST PUT IN THE TIME.
Here is the warning and the promise:
The WARNING- 32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
The PROMISE- 33 but whoever listens to me will live in [inner] safety and be at ease, without fear of [outward] harm.
Let’s begin anew this morning making Him and His Word our highest priority.
