Proverbs 8 5-8-19

Want to sharpen your ability to Hear God? Read His Word with the intention of hearing the Spirit speak to you. He WILL!

8:1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?

The people of the OC (Old Covenant) didn’t understand the concept of the Holy Spirit because He had not come in the manner that He comes to us (see Acts 2). But the Spirit WAS STILL AT WORK in them through the wisdom that came through God’s words in Scripture. Solomon understood the role of wisdom in his life as is exemplified in this chapter:

6 Listen, for I [wisdom] have trustworthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.

12 I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.

14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight, I have power.

17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.

David perceived the concept much better than most as is emphasized in Psalm 119. Here are some excerpts:

2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart–

10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.

24 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors.

27 Cause me to understand the way of your precepts, that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds.

33 Teach me the way… 34 Give me understanding… 35 Direct me in the path… 36 Turn my heart toward your statutes… 37 Turn my eyes away from worthless things… 38 Fulfill your promise… 39 Take away the disgrace I dread…

60 I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.

And that was all OC! In the NC (New Covenant), we have the Holy Spirit inside us to teach us and guide us and to interpret the written words of God for us. Paul certainly understood:

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

When the thought comes to us, “I don’t have time to read the Word today,” understand that Satan is whispering to you. DON’T LISTEN!!! Instead, let’s rely on what we KNOW: God speaks to us through His Word. So, the question becomes, “Do I really want to hear from God today?” Let’s get the journey for today started on the right foot and the right path by submitting to the authority of God in our lives. He will never lead us astray!
