What we say and do reveal what is in our hearts. Be sure it’s godly!
21 As charcoal to embers and as wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome person for kindling strife.
Jesus gave clear warning about what is inside showing up on the outside:
11 What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean.’”… 17 “Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’ 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what make a man ‘unclean’; but eating with [ceremonially] unwashed hands does not make him ‘unclean.’” Matthew 15:11,17-20
Paying attention to our motives is important. Doing things-even good things-FOR God can be considered evil by God because we did them without asking, without His leadership and participation, and often with the wrong motive.
We are to be SPIRIT-DRIVEN all the time, every time. At least, that’s our goal. Easy to say, hard to do!
Our go-to passage is in Ephesians, chapter 4:
22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24
This goal can only be achieved through constant interaction with the Spirit within us. Let’s listen closely to what His Spirit is saying to us. Begin NOW!
