Is not love and acceptance, belonging and satisfaction what we want most in life? Jesus offers ALL of these.
16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him:
If there are things that God hates, then we know that there are things that God loves.
- We know that He loves those who accept His Son (John 5:22-23, 14:21).We know that God loves hearts that are pure (single-minded on godliness; Matthew 5:8).We know that God loves those who are faithful (Matthew 25:21).
Jesus put a new spin on loving and hating. He used loving life as hanging onto life in such a way that we leave God out of it, and hating life as a comparison to the life He has in store for us:25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” John 12:25-26
I don’t know where we went “soft” on living for Jesus, but it seems that the Christianity offered today does not require much in the way of sacrifice. Our opinions are just that: our opinions. In light of eternity, they are not worth much. Instead, let’s let go of the things we have learned from living in this world and focus on what Christ has for us.He has BIG plans for us:
- An adventure living for Him, in that we don’t know what is in store for each day–but He does!Looking more and more like Jesus to those around us, which can sometimes be awkward, uncomfortable, and even scary!A walk with Him that leads to His throne and a throne beside Him (not sure how that works, but I believe Him–see Ephesians 2:6).
It makes sense to die to this life and live for Him. We just need to get past ourselves… Pray that the Holy Spirit would create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us (Ps. 51:10) and set our feet on a path with Him today!
