At what are you looking? On what are you focused? It will determine what you see. Focus on Christ!
1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,
Under the Old Covenant, folks would memorize verses and passages so that they could live by them. They would make up songs and creeds–maybe create games and other ways to lock God’s Word in their hearts. They were “by the book” people.
Today, under the New Covenant, we still do all those things to “hide His Word in our hearts,” but we have a distinct advantage. We have the Holy Spirit–we have Jesus inside of us to guide us into all truth and to remind us of all that Jesus said.
I believe this. Why? Because Jesus said it. John heard Him say it, and the Holy Spirit prompted John to include it in his narrative of the life of Jesus (the book of John). Lets read it:
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:25-26
Not only do I believe it because Jesus said it, I believe it because I have experienced it everyday for years! We were saved from sin in order to have a personal, one-on-one relationship with Jesus. In fact, that’s what salvation IS!
He is the Good Shepherd and we are His sheep. We know Him and follow Him because we know His voice (John 10:3-4).
Let’s focus on Jesus and concentrate on discerning His voice and learning what He has to say to us through His Word.
