Proverbs 31 3-31-19

What do we consider important? On what do we spend our time, our effort, our strength, and our money? Our hearts follow our treasure.

3 Do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings.

Women being one of them, there are lots of things that can ruin our lives, or, at least, detract us from truly living life. We were created by God to love Him. He knows what is best for us. We are to love and obey Him. His Spirit lives within us to direct our paths. It’s a daily choice, meaning that each decision we make has the potential of giving us life or enslaving us again. Jesus put it this way:

31 “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 34 “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” John 8:31, 33

Jesus wants us to be free. We are truly His disciples when we obey. The Scriptures guide us in our knowledge and relationship with Him, but it’s His Spirit that reminds us of what it says, interprets it for us, and helps us make application. We MUST walk by the Spirit:

16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other , so that you do not do what you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” Galatians 5:16-18

Trying to live according to the Bible without the assistance of the Holy Spirit is living under the Old Covenant–the Law. As we walk with the Spirit, ask Him for His opinion on everything, for His direction, and for His explanation on anything that you don’t understand. He may not give it to us right away or in the manner in which we expect it, but eventually He will get around to showing us. Many times, He uses our circumstances to teach us, in which case we must wait until we have walked through them before He calls our attention back to our question and reveals the answer. It’s all part of the walk.

Let’s walk with Jesus today as we go to church and worship Him. Remember this: We can’t really worship Him if there is anything that stands between Him and us. Make sure He is your One and Only God. He’s waiting for you…
