Proverbs 7 3-7-19

Why do we continue to go where temptation is? How many times do we have to learn that lesson?!

6 At the window of my house I looked out through the lattice. 7 I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who lacked judgment. 8 He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house 9 at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.

Notice that he was among the simple, which means that he may not have known better, but was prone to evil tendencies. There are a couple of pertinent verses about the company we keep:

He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. Pr 13:20

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1Co 15:33

Another thing to notice is his direction. He KNEW where she did business! There are many places where we know Satan does business, but we frequent them anyway; we tell ourselves that we will only enjoy the food or entertainment. We are gambling with our integrity and giving the devil a foothold! Beware!!!

The third thing to notice is his timing: As the dark of night set in. It was her best time and he knew it. Also, deeds of darkness love the darkness. What should WE love?

Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” Jn 3:20-21

6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1Jn 1:6-7

Let’s learn a lesson from this young man and avoid making the same mistakes over and over again. Let’s live our lives in such a way that brings glory to God and protects us at the same time.
