“Are you saved, but living like a lost person?” What a turn-off to lost people! They-and we-miss the blessings of being united with Christ!
6 Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?
As I asked myself this question, I noticed several verses in chapter 20 that apply. Let’s look at some:
4 A sluggard does not plow in season; so at harvest time he looks but finds nothing.
How can we expect anything from the LORD if we don’t put anything into the relationship? James says to not expect anything from a double-minded person (one who wants to be godly, but either won’t put in the effort or would prefer to live in sin- James 1:6-8).
9 Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”?
Being Christ followers is not a DIY project. We MUST stay connected to the Vine (John 15:4-5).
13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare.
Spiritual laziness shows a lack of gratitude for the price Christ paid for our salvation. You have been forgiven much; love Him much (Luke 7:47).
24 A man’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?
When we follow the LORD, He directs our path (Pr 3:6). We are not supposed to understand it, except maybe in hindsight; most of the time we will have to wait until we get to heaven to see how everything was connected. That’s why it’s so important for us to depend on Him ALL THE TIME. Ask Him what to eat, what to wear, which route to take to work, who to call, etc. and allow Him to interrupt your plans.
One more verse:
30 Blows and wounds cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the inmost being.
Let’s not let this be us! Let’s follow the LORD closely each day, all day. Read His Word, Pray constantly, Minister greatly, Praise often. Stand CLOSE to Him and feel His love, joy and peace that radiate from Him!
