Faith comes by hearing about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. We ask: Why did He die? How was He raised?
These two questions are at the heart of the Gospel. The answers make perfect sense to those of us who have put our lives into the nail-scarred hands of Jesus:
8 All the words of my [wisdom’s] mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse. 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge. Pr 8:8-9
But, what about those who don’t know the Bible, don’t trust the Bible, or have been lied to about the Bible? We must show them the proof of the Bible in our lives. Our relationship with the LORD is really all we have. Our connection and fellowship with Him must be enough for people to realize that what we have is real. Then, when they question us about our faith, whether politely or otherwise, we have the authority of our walk with Him to answer them in love.
The Apostle John wrote an account of Jesus’s life. Why? Because of the extraordinary life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. John met with Him many times before Jesus ascended back into heaven–he even saw Him go! What does John say?
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
First, God loves. Second, He gave-Himself! Third, “whoever” means everyone.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
God is trying to save people from condemnation and destruction!
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
What people must realize is that they are already dying both physically and spiritually.
19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
This verse is the TRUE reason that people don’t come to Christ.
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” Jn 3:16-21
It’s not just a matter of believing; our faith must be backed up by our deeds. To make Jesus LORD, people must commit their lives to Him. THEN, He enters and makes His home in them. It’s how we did it and it’s how they must do it. As they listen to the Holy Spirit Who is now in-residence, He confirms the truths written in the Bible, and it makes sense! But, we can’t expect an unbeliever to trust the Bible–except when sharing the Gospel, for that is when the Holy Spirit confirms the truth of the Gospel that is written there.
All of this explanation is to say that I will not argue the origin of man, the great flood, or about anything else with a lost person until he expresses an interest in the Gospel: the life, death, and RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ and the fact that He lives in my heart. Let’s keep the main thing the MAIN THING!
May our lives be witnesses to the Truth of the Gospel today.
