If our desire is to do as we please, then we have not mastered our old sin nature. Pleasing the LORD must take precedence!
1 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. 2 I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.
… 5 Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them.
… 7 Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Pr 4:1-2,5,7
In our new life with Christ, we find ourselves at war with ourselves. The Spirit within us wants us to be like God; our old nature wants to be like we were. We must decide to be like God in every decision we make. This process requires constant monitoring and consistent fellowship with the Spirit.
I was listening to Andy Stanley the other day. He pointed out the golden rule, which is:
12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Mt 7:12
And the platinum rule, which is:
32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ep 4:32
He said to ask ourselves, “How did God treat me in Christ? Then, that’s how ought to treat others.”
These rules can only be followed as we are empowered by the Spirit. Let’s Power Up today through the Word of God and through constant contact and consistent fellowship with the Spirit.
