How do we end up on such bumpy roads in life? Could it be that we are ignoring the Spirit’s guidance?
5 In the paths of the wicked lie thorns and snares, but he who guards his soul stays far from them. Pr 22:5
Our position with God is safe. He took care of that when we asked Him in and His Spirit came to live in us. What He is working on now is our faith: How much of what He has told us do we really believe?
- He will never leave us or forsake us (Heb. 13:5). If this is the case, then why aren’t we more careful where we go and what we do?
- Christ makes His appeal to others through us (2 Cor. 5:20). If so, then why is our speech and our conversations not tailored to that end?
Christ’s path for us has enough twists and turns in it without us adding detours! He may call on us to walk very rough paths for His sake. There are two reasons that I see:
- To be made into His image. Our sin runs deeper than we will ever know. Also, other people’s sin runs deep, and we all live with the consequences of everyone’s sin.
- To reach specific people for the sake of the Gospel. What are we willing to go through for another person’s salvation?
Let”s not make our own path any rougher than it needs to be. Let’s fix our eyes on Jesus, Who began our path, walks with is on our path, and will see us through to the end of our path.
