Proverbs 20 12-20-18

We need a little bit of fear. Not the kind that drives us away from God, but draws us closer to Him.

2 A king’s wrath is like the roar of a lion; he who angers him forfeits his life. Pr 20:2

Sometimes we forget that God is GOD Almighty, Sovereign LORD of the universe!

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.” Heb 12:28-29

God sees everything; He knows everything.

8 When a king sits on his throne to judge, he winnows out all evil with his eyes. Pr 20:8

13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Heb 4:13

Why is God so jealous of us? Because sin destroys us. It robs us of our health, our wealth, and our inheritance:

  • Sin kills. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” Gen. 2:16-17
  • Sin heats up our passion into an unquenchable hunger and thirst. It becomes an obsession. Instead, 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Mt 5:6
  • In pursuit of our obsessions, sin gets us to make unwise choices about what we eat, and on what we spend our time and money. We blow it on frivolous stuff, gamble it away, risk our income, relationships, freedom, and even our very lives to have a fleeting moment of pleasure.
  • Sin also robs us of spiritual blessings and hinders our relationship with our LORD.

Let’s fear anything that hinders us and gets in the way of us and our God. Be of singleness of purpose and thought:

4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. Ps 27:4

4 Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Ps 25:4-5

10 find out what pleases Him. Eph. 5:10

He loves us!
