Proverbs 23 11-23-18

Satan knows his targets–us! His bag of tricks may be old and few, but, oh, what tricks! Christ would save us from them.

Proverbs 23:1-3 When you sit to dine with a ruler [or go to a ballgame, concert, nightclub, casino, or any earthly event], note well what is before you [beware!], and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony [we are ALL given to gluttony–we become excessive: if we like something, we want more of it and we are inclined to arrange our lives to GET more of it]. Do not crave his delicacies [lust of the flesh: physical pleasures; lust of the eyes: greed, wanting what others have, MORE of what we are having; pride of life: we deserve it!], for that food is deceptive [its a scam, a trap!]

In order for us to have Free Will, God made us like Himself with the ability to choose for ourselves how we will live and who we will serve–every decision! God will honor our decisions, but remember: Payday Someday. Not only that, but we miss out on what God has for us NOW in regard to relationship with Him and with His family. We miss truth, and we miss being a help to others in finding the Truth. We miss Him and all He has to offer us: True love, great joy, His peace, real hope, and mercy and grace to live each day. How can anything in the world beat that?!

On this day labeled, Black Friday, let’s be aware of Satan’s schemes and not get caught up in them. Instead, let’s focus on TRUTH. Here are the verses for my reasoning:

1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the [fleshly] cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the [prideful] boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man [person] who does the will of God lives forever.

Hebrews 4:13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

[16] Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:24-25 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
