3 John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. For this I give thanks.
Proverbs 22:6 Train [start out] a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.
I suppose we all have heard about the idea of raising our children as gender-neutral for the first five years of their lives until they have chosen which gender they will pursue. There is a fatal flaw in their thinking: babies are not born gender-neutral; there is certain “plumbing” that comes with each baby and is God-designed. HE chooses their gender.
God also has commissioned us to raise our children-and help raise our family’s and friends’ children-in the fear and nurture of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Genesis 18:19 For I have chosen him [Abraham], so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”
Deuteronomy 6:5-9 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
The first five years of a child’s life is the most impressionable. Let’s teach them with word and deed what it means to love our Lord with everything we are and have, and let’s help raise our church family as we follow Him.
