Proverbs 4 11-4-18

Where is your heart? Is it in the LORD’s hands? Or are you still holding onto part of it? Give it up, let it go, throw it down!

Proverbs 4:4 he taught me and said, “Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live.”

Living a double standard ruins both sides. A person who is a believer in Christ, but follows from a distance has eternal life, but is missing the whole point of salvation, which is a personal and intimate relationship with God through Christ. He tells us that we can’t have it both ways, that eventually we will have to choose.

Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money [Mammon-material things of this world].”

Luke 9:61-62 Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family [substitute whatever you like here].” Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

What can be so important in this world that we would choose it over a relationship with the living God?! Was His sacrifice on the cross not proof that He loves us and that our sin is serious enough for Him to have to die for us–on a cruel cross, no less?! We SHOULD be like Thomas:

John 20:27-28 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

Today, let’s worship our LORD with all our hearts, giving Him our entire lives, and pledge to walk with Him closely from this point on.
