Proverbs 29 10-29-18

Our first thoughts and feelings are from our natural disposition: our flesh. THEN come the filters of the Spirit.

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who heeds instruction.

Let’s establish a baseline:

  1. We were born with a sin nature. We were dead in our sins and have no spiritual discernment whatsoever.
  2. Christ paid the debt we could never pay and bought us back! He loves us!
  3. We who trust in Him have been crucified with Christ and He lives in us and through us. This process is learned. It is also where we live.
  • If we have no revelation from the Spirit of God either through His Word or by His Spirit, we naturally revert to our old, sinful, self-centered nature. WE ARE TALKING DAILY HERE! What we want to do is establish ourselves as His children (Romans 8:16) with an eternal relationship with Him. We serve because He served and we are extensions of Him on this earth, but our position has been changed from servant status to sonship status. Thus, the next verse becomes applicable:
  • Proverbs 29:19 A servant cannot be corrected by mere words; though he understands, he will not respond.

We, though, DO respond to His correction because we are His children! The key is to keep ourselves responsive by setting aside our natural person and accessing our spiritual person, which is who we are in Christ. We are being transformed into His likeness!

Our daily walk with Him is much more than “daily.” It is moment-by-moment. It is an eternal relationship. Let’s do all we can to enhance and deepen it by reading His Word (memorizing it and looking up verses whenever the Spirit brings them to mind, quoting them to others–when appropriate) and living in a constant awareness of His Presence in our lives.

Let’s be SONS who act like servants; not servants who act like sons.

    Bonus verse:

2 Corinthians 4:5 For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.
