Proverbs 28 10-28-18

To win the lottery…would put me in direct conflict with the plans of step-by-step dependence with my LORD. Just saying…

Proverbs 28:25 A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.

Another translation for dissension is conflict. When we want something for nothing, or wish for money not made by our own work and integrity, we play right into the devil’s hands. Our dependence shifts from the LORD to the world and its outlook.

The dissension and conflict arises within ourselves as we wrestle between two worldviews and two masters. Jesus said:

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money [Mammon-wealth regarded as an evil influence or false object of worship and devotion. It was taken by medieval writers as the name of the devil of covetousness, and revived in this sense by Milton.]

Today, let’s focus on what we DO have:

  • A loving relationship with the God of the universe,
  • A Savior who loves us more than His own life,
  • A Spirit that rejoices in living with us,
  • A family that extends through all time and all nations,
  • A home awaiting us that far surpasses anything this world could offer.

Who could ask for anything more?! Let’s worship our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ today. HE alone is worthy of all power and wealth (riches) and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!
