Let’s focus on our present position: Forgiven in Christ, loved by God, in-dwelt by the Holy Spirit. All else is gravy!
Proverbs 8:35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.
Ephesians 1:7-8 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
This is our POSITION in Christ. No one can change it.
Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Do we fight our sinful nature? Yes. Do we fail? Yes. Does it change our position in Christ? NO! Is He continually disappointed in us? NO!
Ephesians 1:4-6 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight [He will make us holy and blameless–in fact, we already ARE to Him]. In love he predestined us [see?!] to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
Why would God do such a thing? “To the praise of his glorious grace!” And,
Ephesians 2:4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
Folks, it doesn’t get any better than that!
Why do we serve Him? In response to His great love and mercy. Why do we keep trying? Because of His great love and mercy. How do we know we are pleasing to Him? Because of His great love and mercy. How do we know we will win? Because of His great love and mercy!
Let’s “forget about what is behind and strain toward what is ahead,” and “keep our eyes fixed on Him, the Author and Finisher of our faith.”
