Proverbs 5 9-5-18

With the Spirit leading us, we have Resurrection Power to be victorious against sin, especially concerning forgiveness.

Proverbs 5:1-2 My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight, [2] that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.

What knowledge? Paul spells it out for us in Ephesians:

Ephesians 4:29-32 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. [30] And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption [because it grieves the Spirit when we disobey and do not control our mouths]. [31] Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice [these come from attitudes of the heart]. [32] Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you [we use Christ’s resurrection power to accomplish these].

Are we not all still flesh and blood, unglorified, and still fighting the “old man?” Do we not all need grace?

Justice-receiving what we deserve;

Mercy-not receiving what we deserve;

Gracereceiving what we need rather than what we deserve!

In Paul’s letter to Titus, he described us to a “T:”

Titus 3:3-8 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. [4] But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, [5] he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, [6] whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, [7] so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. [8] This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

Let’s be about displaying the glory of God in our lives by being like Christ, forgiving one another out of our love for Christ.
