The goal of every Christian is to be like Christ, to live according to every word God speaks to us through His Spirit.
Proverbs 3:31-32 Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways, for the LORD detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence.
We become upright when we receive Christ. We are immediately taken into His confidence. How? Through the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit. His thoughts are made known to us.
1 Corinthians 2:16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Proverbs 1:23 If you will respond to my rebuke, I will pour out my heart to you and make my thoughts known to you.
The problem we must face is the problem of our “old man,” our former way of life. Our susceptibility to deception creates daily havoc in our lives. We must make a DAILY habit of “washing with the water of the word” (Eph. 5:26) even as Christ presents us to Himself as “a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless (27).”
Here is our daily assignment–sometimes hourly, even continuously:
Ephesians 4:22-24 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is [susceptible to] being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
Let’s truly work to be like Christ today. Walk with Him; listen to Him, and then OBEY Him!
