Proverbs 30 8-30-18

Pride will get us every time. It got Satan and it will get us if we let it. Our attitude should be like Jesus: Humble!

Proverbs 30:29-31 There are three things that are stately in their stride, four that move with stately bearing:[30] a lion, mighty among beasts, who retreats before nothing; [31] a strutting rooster, a he-goat, and a king with his army around him [secure against revolt].

One would think that having your army around him would be safe enough, but history has proven that most kingdoms that are brought down by revolt were betrayed by someone from within–even the king’s own children (Isaiah 37:37).

God Himself had rebellion among His angels. Satan led one third of God’s celestial army astray and thus was kicked out of heaven:

Isaiah 14:12-15 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! [13] You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. [14] I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” [15] But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.

He who was once beautiful and honored became Satan as we know Him today:

Ezekiel 28:14-17 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. [15] You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. [16] Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.[17] Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.

A summary is given for us with more details:

Revelation 12:3-4 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. [4] His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. [7] And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. [8] But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. [9] The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

The point is this: we all can fall. Not only that, but Satan wants us to fall. But, if we keep our eyes and focus on Jesus, we will be victorious!

Revelation 12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Let’s make today all about Him, shall we?
