Proverbs 21:1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.
The key to this verse is to be open to the LORD’S leadership. We receive all the blessings if we are part of the direction of the water. If not,
Proverbs 21:2 A person may think his own ways are right, but the LORD weighs the heart.
The goodness of God has to do with His character. God is the essence of goodness. HE sets the definition. By His goodness He calls us and helps us to stand; He gives us His Spirit and recreates His character in us. The basis for our goodness is LOVE because God is love (1 John 4:16b).
God is much more interested in developing our character than He is receiving our good works–unless our good works are done in obedience to and in accordance with the leadership of His Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 21:3 To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

2 Peter 1:5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness…
Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Psalms 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me [one that wants to be like You].
