God is not hiding from us, but He won’t move from His position. We must move to His. It’s the WISE thing to do.
Proverbs 8:35-36 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD. But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love [court] death.
This entire chapter is the LORD imploring us to choose Him rather than the world. Look at how He pleads with us:
Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.
I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice, bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.
What kind of wealth?
Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
What did Jesus think about riches?
Matthew 6:19-21 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
So, who is the wise person?
Matthew 7:24-29 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
Who we believe Jesus is has everything to do with how we will respond to this passage. Is He LORD? Of your life? Then, let’s be doers of the Word and not hearers only (James 1:22). Let’s be wise today and follow as close to Him as He was to the Father (see 8:30) and stay glued to His side!
