Are we wise or are we fools? We prove who we are each day by whom we follow: the LORD or the world.
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Each month we begin again our study on Proverbs to renew in our minds true wisdom. So, let’s go over it again. The purpose of wisdom is:
- To attain knowledge-both intellectual and experiential-of the Holy One;
- To acquire a disciplined and prudent life, one borne out of discarding all that is harmful-or even unnecessary-and focusing on Him and His ways;
- To walk life’s path with Him and following His every step and command.
Proverbs 1:23 If you respond to my rebuke [direction], I will pour out my heart to you and make my thoughts known to you.
 whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.
He makes it so plain. Then, why is it so hard to do? Because our sin nature doesn’t want us to! We want to do what WE want to do when we want to do it. We can’t beat “the old man” on our own. We need HIM! I love these verses:
Romans 7:24-25 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? [25a] Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Galatians 4:4-6 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
Let’s hold onto what we know in our hearts to be true: Jesus is LORD! Let’s serve Him today as we walk in His wisdom by walking close to His side and believing/obeying every word He says.
