Without the call of Jesus in our lives, Christianity would be as worthless as any other religion.
Proverbs 22:4 Humility and the fear of the LORD bring wealth and honor and life.
If I had a chance to explain to you why I follow Jesus, I would begin by telling you of His call on my life. I read some verses and, rather than trying to fit them into my incomplete and distorted worldview, I took them at face value; I considered them as truth and followed where that line of thinking would go. “What verses?” You ask:
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
This verse let me in on a cosmic secret: God was coming to earth!
If so, why?
Hebrews 1:1-3 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
When I began to consider sin, the Spirit of God made clear to me that I am responsible for my actions, and my actions have been selfish, arrogant, and destructive both to myself and to others.
Psalms 51:17 My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
I realized that I was a sinner in need of a Savior: Jesus Christ.
So, I called out to Him, professing my need for Him and His forgiveness–and He saved me! More than that, He entered my heart and took up residence there! He has become my LORD, my King, MY BEST FRIEND!
Now, when I read His Word, He speaks to me and I see things through His eyes rather than my old, warped, myopic view of life. His Spirit gives me the desire and power to follow Him and be obedient. My life is filled with His love, joy and peace that radiate from Him. My song is now for Him, as is my life.
If I had the chance, I would invite you to open yourself up to Him. Is He calling you to come to Him?
