Proverbs 24 6-24-18

Each week, we are offered the opportunity to meet with other Christians to worship the LORD and learn about Him FROM Him through His Word, from the gift-given evangelist (the pastor), the gift-given teacher (small group leader), and to fellowship with other Christians, stoking each other’s fire, so to speak. Do we realize how important it is to have that time together weekly? God thinks it is vital!

Proverbs 24:13-14 Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. [14] Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.

How important IS it to God for us to stop weekly?

Exodus 20:8-11 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. [9] Six days you shall labor and do all your work, [10] but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. [11] For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

From this passage, we learn:

  1. It is a command from God. #4 of the 10 Commandments.
  2. It’s supposed to be a day of rest (not something we Americans do well).
  3. It is patterned after Creation. Six literal, 24 hour days. It doesn’t get any plainer than that!
  4. It is a blessed day, and we will be blessed if we honor it.

Seek the LORD today at church. Find honey from the comb (His Presence and Him in others). “Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.” Psalm 29:2
