Proverbs 17 6-17-18

Knowing that the LORD knows every thought should make us fearful and safe at the same time!

Proverbs 17:3 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the heart.

Chapter 15 has this verse:

Proverbs 15:11 Death and Destruction lie open before the LORD— how much more the hearts of men!

Let’s take the “safe” part first. Jesus is crazy about us! He knows we have been corrupted by sin. The purpose of the cross was to render sin powerless to our souls. In Christ, we no longer have to fear death!

So, what do we fear? Knowing that God knows every thought should make us fear ourselves. We have such a capacity to think errant thoughts. Just knowing that Christ knows makes me cringe sometimes! But, instead of running and hiding, I turn to Him and ask for His mind and His thoughts. He reminds me that He is my Friend and loves me at all times and sticks closer than a brother:

John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Proverbs 18:24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

I love verses like these! They make me want to find more verses that show me God’s heart! He is the perfect Father! Let’s honor Him this Father’s Day with gladness and joy in our hearts.
