Proverbs 13 6-13-18

Jesus Christ must be our Center. From Him flow love, joy and peace, strength for today and hope for tomorrow.

Proverbs 13:9 The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is snuffed out.

The light we carry in us is Jesus Christ Himself. He is the Light of the World. Therefore, we are light-bearers to the world.

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Colossians 1:27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

His light inside of us has two purposes. One is to shine light on us and the other is to shine light on those around us. His light is life (John 1:4). The life He gives always starts with peace, and out of peace comes joy. He gives us compassion for others and we express His love for and to them. We do so by being patient, kind and good while being faithful and gentle, all the while exercising self-control (Gal. 5:22-23).

We often suffer because of other people’s bad choices. When that happens, we must:

  1. Trust God to take care of us and see us through.
  2. Keep Him at the center of our thoughts and allow Him to fill us with His joy, peace and love.
  3. Overflow to all around us. We talk about the goodness of God rather than the injustices of this world.

Our struggles can be a time of light or a time of darkness. Let’s choose light. Impossible situations are when Jesus shows Himself mighty! The Apostle Paul certainly had plenty of reasons to complain, but listen to his testimony:

Philippians 4:12-13 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. [13] I can do [overcome, make it through] everything through him who gives me strength.
