Proverbs 2 6-2-18

Turning to something means that we must turn away from something else. We turn to Christ at the cost of everything else.

Proverbs 2:2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding,

To turn our ear is to focus our attention. We run filters on ambient noise all the time; it’s how we hear conversations in crowded and loud places. We must learn to do the same spiritually with the Spirit’s voice.

Proverbs 2:7 (KJV) He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

Upright- completeness; figuratively prosperity (as in more credits than debits); usually (morally) innocence. Fullness, integrity, perfection, simplicity.

Sound impossible? It is…on our own. Listen to this:

2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

He doesn’t call us by our own goodness, but by His ownglory and goodness. Let’s learn how to use it!

[12]Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, [13] who leave the straight paths to walk in dark ways,

[16] It will save you also from the adulteress, from the wayward wife with her seductive words, [17] who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God.

These two people have chosen to forsake their vows and turn to “something else.” We MUST remain focused on our goal, which is Jesus!

Philippians 3:13-14 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, [14] I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Let’s allow God to set out a course for us that helps us get rid of the stuff that weighs us down and the sin that so easily binds us (Heb. 12:1). We will have success as He protects us, but most of all, we will get to see Jesus (Heb. 12:2).

If it gets hard, just remember:

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Let’s keep squeezing the bad from the good so that peace can reign. Fight the good fight.
