Proverbs 31 5-31-18

The mandate for America to come to the aid of people in need is biblical; in the words of a Vietnam medic, “We’re Americans. It’s what we do.”

Proverbs 31:8-9 “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. [9] Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

The Civil War, WW1 and WW2, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and our current conflicts were and are all about restraining evil in this world. Christians fuel and sustain that desire.

We of all people have the greatest reasons to go and to support our troops:

  1. It’s biblical. Jesus Himself is our prime example, John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
  2. We have security of salvation and the promise of a glorious life ahead. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
  3. Where WE go, the Gospel goes. Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
  4. We have this promise from Christ Himself: “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

As Christians, we pray for and seek peace so that we may share the Gospel. Pray for peace. Our battlefield is spiritual. Pray for a fresh moving of the Spirit in our nation, and may it begin in us!
