Christ, serving Him and bringing glory to Him, and heaven are to be our focus in this life. Don’t get distracted.
Proverbs 24:31 thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins.
What we have here is an example of the Chaos Theory, or the the Second Law of Thermodynamics: the entropy of any isolated system always increases.
But things were not created this way. The world was created “very good” (Genesis 1:31) by Christ Himself:
Proverbs 8:30-31 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.
Colossians 1:15-17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
What happened? Sin entered through one man, and through sin entered death (Romans 5:12). From that point on, this world has been dying. Christ will eventually allow it to pass away (Matt. 24:35, 2 Peter 3:10, Rev. 21:1) and a new heaven and earth will be our home, one with the ravages of sin–even the memory of it–will be erased! It will be similar to this earth, but not just a new and improved model; it will be NEW!
Isaiah 65:17-19 “Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.”
The Apostle Paul said in Colossians 3:1-4 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Note: The rest of the chapter tells us how to “set our minds on things above.”
Let’s be about the Father’s business today and not let ourselves get caught up in worldly endeavors. Be Heaven-Focused!
