Proverbs 2 5-2-18

Why read the Bible? Why memorize verses? We are building our spiritual vocabulary! It’s how the Spirit communicates with us.

Proverbs 2:10-11 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. [11] Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.

I think we often have the concept of a do-it-yourself faith. What we NEED to remember is that is it HE who saved us and HE who keeps us:

Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you [the Spirit] will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

What this means is that He takes responsibility for our spiritual growth. What we need to do is learn to LISTEN. He is constantly speaking to our hearts, whispering to our thoughts, and revealing Himself through our circumstances. The “unveiled faces” we read about in 2 Cor. 3:18 becomes evident in our lives as we grow in Him.

Here are some more verses on feeding on the word:

1 Peter 2:2-3 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, [3] now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

Hebrews 5:14 Solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

When we received the Holy Spirit, we got HIM and all He brought with Him. What we need to do is learn to work what is inside to the outside (Phil. 2:12-13): His goodness and holiness, His righteousness and godliness. We CAN be like Him! He has said as much in His Word:

1 Corinthians 1:5-9 For in him you have been enriched in every way—in all your speaking and in all your knowledge— [6] because our testimony about Christ was confirmed in you. [7] Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. [8] He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9] God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

Let’s live for Him, with Him, today, learning how to communicate with our Heavenly Father.
