Goal #1: Blessing God.
Goal #2: Blessing Robin, my wife.
Proverbs 25:13 Like the coolness of snow at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to those who send him; he refreshes the spirit of his [Master].
My first priority is to God. I know that by aligning myself with Him, all my other relationships are aligned. It takes constant checking to stay in step with Him and on course with my life. Just as we keep our eyes on the road and on traffic around us, we keep our eyes on our Lord. Again, even as we stay close to our trail Guide, we stay in step with our Lord.
So, what is the deal with a person who SAYS he has given his heart to Jesus, but lives as if He is not important?
Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of gifts [the gift of his life] he does not give.
That person either does not know all that Jesus holds in store for him, or he doesn’t care. Either way, he is missing out on God’s blessings.
So, how do we receive God’s blessings?
First, we must realize that the RELATIONSHIP is the Blessing. Fellowship with the Father is the entire goal of the Cross. Make that your heart’s desire and I promise He will give it to you!
Psalms 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
The second thing we must do is read His Word and apply it. Constantly. In everything. With everyone. For instance, yesterday we read Romans 12:10-18,
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody [according to the Word]. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
After reading these verses yesterday, did we strive to put them into practice? Let’s try again today, this time being proactive–write them down on a card and put it in a prominent place; refer to it often throughout the day.
Loving God is first for all of us. Loving our spouse is second (if no spouse, then you are free to love those around you as second). Let’s take our New Life and New Nature seriously. It’s important.
