Proverbs 6 4-6-18

Christ-like qualities: “Love is patient, love is kind.” “Be completely humble and gentle.” [taken from 1 Cor. 13:4 and Eph. 4:2]

Being like Jesus is impossible unless we are walking in step with Him. His qualities and passion are more caught than taught. Opening your mind and heart to His Spirit every time we think about it is how we stay in constant communication with Him. We don’t realize it, but each time we think of doing it, we are actually being prompted by Him!

When we become aware of something we have said,

Proverbs 6:2 if you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth,

it is the Holy Spirit revealing to us the error of our ways and giving us the opportunity to join Him in fixing it. He doesn’t condemn us, but rather He asks us to work with Him to become more like Him through obedience.

Here is His promise:

Proverbs 6:20-23 (NIV)

[20] My son, keep your father’s commands [God’s Word] and do not forsake your mother’s teaching [God’s ways].

[21] Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck.

[22] When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.

[23] For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life,

We sometimes disassociate God’s Word from God Himself; let us remember that His Word is ALIVE (Heb. 4:12)! God, His Word, and His power are all one in the same. To be obedient to His commands and to walk in step with Him are the same thing. One doesn’t follow the other–one IS the other!

Today, let’s walk in step with Him as we obey His Word and His promptings.
