Proverbs 19:1 Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse.
Jesus said, “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.
There will be a Day of Reckoning. We should keep it in mind always. We have many reckonings in our lives; they are called “consequences.” For instance, if you smoke, you will:
- Smell bad
- Lose your sense of taste
- Open yourself up to disease
- Become dependent
- Endanger others with second-hand smoke
What shall we do? Let us walk with the Lord and chase after righteousness rather than riches. Look at the previous two verses:
“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.
Living for Jesus IS the best way.
