Proverbs 7  7-7-16

This girl had been trained by the best! She hit all the major points:

  1. She dressed right (10)
  2. She got his attention with a kiss-physical contact is key (12)
  3. She made him feel wanted and thought about (14-15)
  4. She appealed to his desire (16-18)
  5. She assuaged his concerns about getting caught (19-20)
  6. She won! (21-23)

Do you know the mating habits of the black widow spider? From National Geographic:

“The animals most at risk from the black widow’s bite are insects—and male black widow spiders. Females sometimes kill and eat their counterparts after mating in a macabre behavior that gave the insect its name.”

Verses 25-27 certainly give that feeling, don’t they? And with good reason. Once that path is taken, it becomes a way of life and a difficult path to escape. See 2:16-19, 5:9-14 and 6:25-35 for detailed accounts of consequences, and pay particular attention to 2:19.

The key to this chapter is in verses 1-4:

  • Keep my words
  • Store up my commands
  • Keep my commands
  • Guard my teachings
  • Treat as a close relative: with love and respect, being  jealously protective

THIS is how we are to treat the Word of God. Read it for yourself today!
