Proverbs 6  6-6-16

Proverbs 6:16-19 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him:

1. haughty eyes-a “better than you” attitude. Humility is always the way to go, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” Phil. 2:3

2. a lying tongue-truth is integrity; a man’s word is his bond. We are most like God when we are truthful…and most like Satan when we are not!

3. hands that shed innocent blood- taking advantage of the poor and the helpless is NOT the way of God. 31:8-9 tell us how to be:

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
[9] Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

Also, 29:7, “The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.”

4. a heart that devises wicked schemes- Walk with God daily and you won’t think this way.

5. feet that are quick to rush into evil- Same here.

6. a false witness who pours out lies
– I’m not sure what the difference is between a false witness and one who has a lying tongue.

7. and a man who stirs up dissension among the brethren- some people get a charge out of pitting people against each other. Proverbs calls them mockers and tells us to get rid of them (22:10). Instead, “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Eph. 4:3

Committing verses 16-19 to memory will help you as you walk through your days. Ask the Spirit to show you examples-He will!
